Napa LGBT seniors group for August 6, 2019 - Trust
The issue of trust is a contended space everywhere today it seems. For LGBT seniors, because of our age and experiences, trust is a continual concern in a variety of situations. Can we trust service providers to offer us care without judgement? Can we trust strangers with our safety? Can we even trust people we think we know? However, trust is also key to making the connections that we need in order to have any chance of being happy and healthy. At August's LGBT Seniors Discussion Group in Napa we will discuss trust and navigating relationships in an uncertain world.
This meeting of the Napa LGBT Seniors Discussion Group will take place on Tuesday, August 6, from 10:15 am - Noon at our usual location (Queen of The Valley Community Outreach, 3448 Villa Lane, Suite 102). There is plenty of parking, accessible entrances, and nearby bus transportation. There are no strict age qualifications, so for those that consider themself a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender older adult, please come!
There are a few additional LGBT-related announcements:
Survey for local seniors: as the local area agency on aging is re-born and in development, they would like to continue to get information from local seniors, including LGBT older adults. See the linked flyers (flyer, english survey, spanish survey) for the survey component to recent focus groups that we were invited to. The survey can be done online from home or you can come to our office to use one of our computers. The deadline has been extended so don't worry that it says end of June...
Free LGBTQ friendly drop-in counseling: 100% free counseling appointments are available every Tuesday and Thursday at LGBTQ Connection. No requirements. This is to increase easy access to mental health care for LGBTQ people and our loved ones. Thanks to Napa County's Mental Health Division and Gwendolyn Dean, LCSW.
LGBT seniors walk in August: our August Napa LGBTQ Seniors Walk will be Tuesday August 20 at Kennedy Park, a repeat of our April walk. We’ll meet at 10:30 AM in the parking lot on the right located just after the road into the park crosses railroad tracks and makes a sharp left. Our route is paved and mostly flat with wide open views. Afterwards, we’ll find a picnic table near our parked cars for a bring-your-own-lunch/snack. If you don’t care to walk, bring a lunch/snack anyway and join us after our walk about 11:15 AM.
